Winter Update

The last walk marked our 15th night, yo. In that time, we have:

been on the news [KFYR]
had at least 20-30 people every week
seen a police car car accident
been in 3 different local newspapers [HH, Hi Herald, Century Star]
been threatened by angry main-draggers
been given free food
held hands
picked up garbage
been told to “walk home”
skateboarded, biked, and unicycled
filmed a documentary [in editing phase]
met the “mandan kids”
made lots of free WM stickers and shirts
helped the police
helped some guy who’s truck wouldn’t start
not wasted gas
had a good time

As for the future? Don’t worry, weather won’t stop the campaign, even if it stops the drivers.

What?

Q: What? Walk Main? I don’t get it.

A: Walk Main happens on Friday nights, when most people are stuck in their cars, passively and aimlessly driving around. Walk Main people are the antithesis - walking, talking people meeting people or skating, biking, taking pictures, and hangin’ out - which are still legal and free activities [we're even registered with the Bismarck Police Department as an organized campaign]

Come check it out, bring your dog, or at least yell something at us from your sweet souped-up car.

We also have FREE, handmade WALK MAIN shirts. We sure would accept money, though.

Every Friday, 9:30pm
Main Av., Bismarck, ND.

Main Street History

“The workout that the media have given this compound since the market debacle began should entitle it to overtime pay. It makes a pretty good contrast with Wall Street and seems to overlap more and more with British High Street, despite some areas of meaning that remain distinct. Usage goes back to the 19th century, but Sinclair Lewis’s 1920 novel of the same name is what really gave Main Street legs.”
