Open Mic Night remix

I went to quite a few of the Open Mic Nights this summer in Bismarck. One night I brought my digital recorder and captured some of the sounds going through the air. I’ve wanted to write some hip hop for a long time, so I started cutting up parts of songs and used a beatboxing skit as the base. Here’s what it evolved into:

How to build a ‘48 Ford pickup in one month

My brother and my dad tirelessly worked for a month straight – except a day or two off… probably just to prove they were human. It was an old project started when my brother was 14, but kept in the shed for about 8 years. I won’t give away any more of the story:

You might remember the unedited video for “Life in a Day” I posted earlier this summer.

Turning a 1934 Ford mural into a 1930 Ford mural

This summer seems to have a theme of finishing up old things. I saw this old mural that I had started years ago for my dad in his shed and decided I to finish it. Originally it was a profile of my dad’s ‘34 Ford Streetrod, but Bree and I turned it into Model A  since that’s where my dad parks his Model A that he restored himself. Oh, and I shot a timelapse video.

It’s not perfect, but it’s better than that damn sharpie outline.

North Dakota Bois

My friend Ammon’s latest video is getting more popular than a fresh batch of kuchen. Last week his camera broke just after he began filming, so I grabbed mine and jumped in.

Friday, Friday, Friday! Walk Main!

That’s right, we’re still walking. And we’re trying to get 100 people to come. New posters from Bree and I:

Vimeo Festival + Awards

Vimeo Festival + Awards

I just entered my “Progression” video to Vimeo’s first online contest. Although views or ratings from viewers won’t effect the judging, I’d love to have you go watch it! A panel of judges will make the decision and announce it in September. The Best Video Award is a $25,000 grant to make an original video (!!!!!!!!).

If you’re looking to enter, the entry deadline is tomorrow night.

Life in a Day

UPDATED

There’s a neat film project going on through Youtube called “Life in a Day“. The director wants people to film something going on in their life on the 24th, as well as answering a few simple questions.

I made a video about my dad and my brother’s day, which was spent the same way they’ve spent the last 24 days. He’s scrambling to finish restoring a ‘48 Ford Pickup with my dad that they started 12 years ago.

The project requested an unedited version, so I’ve posted that here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4PvURMdglE
I have an edited version in the works.

I’m not finished editing, but here are their answers to some of the director’s questions:

Opening the Door

The door and the card readerIn my dorm, the magnetic key readers to unlock the doors were placed at a height that made you make some kind of awkward movement to get your card over the sensor (unless you take your card out of your wallet, but who wants to do that?). Anyways, I documented people’s response to this design here.

Still Walkin’

Walk Main in full effect

Some might’ve forgotten about Walk Main, but we sure haven’t. It’s been happening every Friday since mid-May in varying turnouts. As of late we’ve had upwards of 15 people. Before the end of the summer we’d like to get even more people… maybe 100? Well, we’ll need your help. We meet at 4th & Main Ave at 9:30pm in Bismarck.

Oh, and we’ve started doing different themes. Last week was instrument week (check pictures below). This week is aquatic, or “Sail Main“. Dress up as a sailor, pirate, crustacean.. or yourself.
